What is the difference between 2D, 3D and 4D?
2D is the standard ultrasound. This type of ultrasound is recommended for babies that are 20 weeks or younger. 2D is the preferred type of imaging for gender determination since it is most accurate.
3D is the type of ultrasound that allows you to view the surface anatomy of the baby and get a clear image of the baby’s face, hands, feet, etc. It is recommended to do 3D imaging later in pregnancy. (8-9 months)
4D is simply 3D ultrasound captured in real time. (video) This mode of imaging allows you to capture the baby’s movement and activity in 3D. You can see the baby smile, yawn, play with its hands and feet, etc.
What is HDlive (5D)
HDlive (5D) is the latest advance in ultrasound imaging. Like 3D and 4Dlive, you are able to see your baby’s features, but HDlive (5D) produces higher quality images with striking clarity. HDlive (5D) uses a virtual light source and advanced skin rendering techniques to accomplish extraordinarily realistic images.
Is ultrasound safe?
Yes. Ultrasound imaging has been utilized for more than 30 years to evaluate and monitor pregnancies without any evidence of causing harm to the baby or mother. The process of obtaining ultrasound images is non-invasive and does not use ionizing radiation. Therefore, ultrasound does not have the same risks as x-rays and other types of ionizing radiation. We always encourage our clients to consult their physician regarding any concerns of this nature prior to scheduling with us. It is important that you feel comfortable and adequately informed so you may enjoy your session.
How soon can I find out the gender of my baby?
You can schedule for gender determination as early as 13 weeks. We recommend that you have this session done in 2D since the baby is so small.
When is the best time to schedule the 3D/4D ultrasound?
The best time for 3D/4D ultrasound is generally between 30-34 weeks unless you are pregnant with twins. In the case of twins, 20-24 weeks is the best time. If you are unable to schedule your ultrasound during the desired time frame, there is still possibility for obtaining face shots. Please call to discuss your particular circumstance.
